Introduction

11 June 2021

Hi, Apologies for not being in contact sooner. The last 16 months have been challenging in many ways, and has delayed the badminton much longer than I expected.

Firstly I would like to thank all clubs for their sensible approach in getting through the pandemic. Every club has looked and embraced the Badminton England advice, with many playing during last summer under the rule of 6, and then of course stopping play again as we went into the second and third lockdowns.

None of us know if the Covid situation will rear its ugly head again. Certainly the signs are encouraging, with the vaccine rollout and the hopeful relaxation of rules coming into place later this month. But sadly things will be different going forward and we will all have to adapt. The good news is that many clubs are now back in play and enjoying regular club nights under BE guidance.

The federation had a meeting on the 26th May to discuss the best approach to restart competitive badminton. Whilst our intention was to try and conclude the remaining matches from 2019/20 season, I am sure you will agree with me, that too much time has passed. Many clubs are unsure of membership/ team make up etc, and it would be impractical to continue. So with regret we will have to call season 19/20 null and void.

With this in mind, for 21/22 season we felt it unfair to charge clubs on the same basis as before, plus we also understand that Covid has put constraints on many clubs finances.

Therefore it was agreed that affiliation fees already paid for 19/20 will be carried forward to incorporate season 21/22.  Team entry costs for season 21/22 will also be reduced from £10 to £5 for this coming season only.

So in summary:- For 21/22 - No affiliation fee , and ½ price team entry fee.  Any new club entering the Chelmsford league will be charged the regular affiliation fee.

We will not run a summer league this year, or a tournament,  but have taken the approach that we will try and start the Winter league as early as possible. It would also be unfair to assume that each club will submit the same number of teams as they did prior to the pandemic. So we cannot simply take the league make up as it was before and roll it out for this year.

Each club will therefore need to submit the team entries via the web site, and forward payment by Bacs if possible by 16th July please. We will then do our best to formulate the leagues as close as possible to what we had before, with a view to starting play as soon as clubs can around early Sept.

I hope this guidance meets with your expectation, and would ask for your further support whilst we get things started again.

Thank you for your support and cooperation, please keep safe,  and enjoy your club badminton over the coming months.

Many thanks

Jim Roberts

revised return to play

May 17th update: Badminton Englands Return to Play Guidance suggests you can have separate groups of up to 15 on 2 courts (plus coach) for organised club badminton (so two groups of 16 is possible, plus a further 8 if you have a fifth court) no mixing of groups. This is of course subject to review and the local hall rule settings. The rules are set to change again on 21st June when hopefully things return to normal (subject to change).

Covid - Season 2019/20

Dear members, I am sure you are all as anxious as we are to see a full return to Badminton, and my apologies for not updating you sooner on where we are and our position on how we see things moving forward. Like many things during the Covid outbreak, its been very hard to see the wood from the trees regarding direction from Government and Badminton England and then interpreting the information to club level as to what we can do, and when we can play. As such the only thing we know for sure at the moment is that as yet we re still unable to play competitive doubles. So we will have to wait for further announcements. As such we can only deal with what we know and as the year is moving on, we have fewer options as to how we proceed. Therefore our short term intentions are listed below. CDBF will ask clubs to conclude 2019/2020 fixtures as soon as doubles play is allowed. Membership of the federation is extended to all clubs free of charge until the conclusion of season 2019/2020. Shield and plate competitions for 2019/2020 will be concluded as soon as possible. CDBF will not be running the doubles tournament for 2020 2020/2021 season will be started as soon as possible. We will advise all clubs on its form/ duration based on the timing of conclusion of season 2019/2020. This approach will offer its challenges as once play is allowed, it will be up to all clubs to reorganise the remaining fixtures. We appreciate that this may be difficult as there is no guarantee that venues will all recommence at the same time. One good thing is that the easing of restrictions while slow, has been moving in the right direction and we are hopeful that we can update you all with more positive and concrete news shortly. Meantime the committee would like to thank you all for your patience and assure you that we are committed to get play going as soon as possible. Please keep safe and we will post further updates as soon as we can. Regards Jim Roberts Chairman Chelmsford and District Badminton Federation

Covid 19 virus

Dear Colleagues, As you will be aware the Prime Minister made a further statement today regarding the Covid 19 virus. The government have now escalated advice for the public to avoid bars/pubs, clubs, Theatres and non-essential social gatherings. We at the Chelmsford and District Badminton Federation have been following the developments closely , and whilst we have a bias to keep badminton being played both socially and competitively, it is clear that the situation is becoming more serious and we must all do our bit to avoid the spread of the virus. We also have a duty of care to all of our member clubs and in turn the members that support them. As such it is with regret that we have come to the conclusion that the only course of action left is for us to suspend with immediate effect the badminton season until such time as we are able to safely conclude the remaining fixtures. This means that any un played matches, in any of the CDBF leagues and any un played matches in the plate and shield cannot now be played until further notice. At this stage we are unable to say when that will be, but will be monitoring all government advice very closely. We will keep posting updates on the CDBF website as things develop. Clearly this will have a knock on effect for the summer league and also the tournament. We are unable to say if these events will go ahead, but as it stands it is CDBF intention to conclude all competitions with which it is involved. We have taken this action as being the best course for all member clubs and the wider community. It is of course up to each individual club to decide what actions are appropriate as regards their own club night, because as it stands and to the best of my knowledge all badminton venues are still open. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I regret at this early stage I will not have all of the answers. I appreciate clubs will have commitments with hall bookings etc that may not now be required, so I would recommend clubs do what they can to mitigate costs. As you will understand this decision has not been made lightly and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your help and support in these unprecedented times. Best Regards Jim Roberts Chairman Chelmsford and District Badminton Federation.

Corona Virus Guidance

Im sure you will all be aware of the Corona virus by now, and while the threat to the UK may be minimal at the moment, we still want to do our bit to minimise any chance of spreading it. We are therefore asking that when matches are completed, you lightly touch rackets with your opponent rather than shaking hands. This action is being taken across a number of sports in this country and many others around the world. This will apply to matches in the Chelmsford District, and tournaments that we hold and we also ask this be implemented on your club nights as well. We would also ask any club members who have upper respiratory infections (however mild) to avoid club nights and matches for the time being. This shall be in place till the end of the season or until there is news that the virus has been contained. Please pass this news onto your club members so it can be implemented as soon as possible. Thank you for your help in this. Ceri
